Regional tournaments, the next step toward possible berths in the state championships, are on tap this week for high school wrestlers. For teams from south Pierce County, here’s the rundown on who’s competing where:
• The 2A regionals at Fife High School Feb. 11 will include competitors from Eatonville. Qualifiers for the Cruisers after last week’s South Puget Sound League tournament at Orting include Lucas Lane, the runnerup at 152 pounds.
• The 4A South Puget Sound League tournament at Puyallup High last weekend saw multiple Graham-Kapowsin grapplers qualify for the regionals that will be held Feb. 11 at Curtis High. They include Noah Cortez at 106 pounds, Lane Holland 132, Chad Simonson at 145 and Chris Sparks at 220. All four finished second in their weight classes. Connor White-Shrum also advanced with a third-place finish at 285.
• The 3A regionals will have 12 members of the Bethel Braves who made it through the Pierce County League sub-regionals last week. They were led by 160-pound champion Dante Springsteen.
