Free help at library for tax filing

Volunteers will help prepare and electronically file personal federal income tax returns at the Parkland-Spanaway branch of Pierce County Library System.

The free help, which doesn't require an appointment, is for households with incomes of $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited-English-speaking taxpayers. It will be offered through April 10 on Mondays (except Feb. 20) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The IRS-certified volunteers are from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) .

The library is at 13718 Pacific Ave. S.

Also available at all Pierce County Library branches are pre-printed 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ income tax forms and instructions, while supplies last. Due to federal budget constraints, pre-printed forms and instructions are limited in number.

Tax information, forms and e-filing services can also be obtained online by using library computers. The libraries also have forms and instructions that can be copied for 10 cents per page.
