Matthew Armund Mueller passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 8, 2017 at the age of 44. Matt was born on January 2, 1973, the youngest son of Pat and Sandy Mueller. Matt came into the world in a very special way - he was born at home during a snow storm and delivered by his dad. As a young boy, Matt loved duck hunting and playing baseball. After graduating from Eatonville High School in 1991, he attended Central Washington University, spending his free time working at Mt. Rainier and Glacier National Parks. Matt started teaching and coaching for the Puyallup School District in 1997. He continued working summers at Glacier National Park where he met Heather Mitchell. The two were married at Glacier on June 24, 2000. Matt loved working with kids - whether it was in the classroom or on the field. One of his main goals as an educator was to ensure that his students had a balance between academics and athletics. In addition, Matt’s work ethic was unmatched. He would often even get to school before the janitors. In 2004, the family moved to Eatonville, just around the corner from Matt’s parents. In 2008, Matt began working for the Eatonville School District as Assistant Principle and Athletic Director. He loved this new transition in his career. Being able to see students excel on and off the field was very gratifying for him. Matt also loved being outdoors. It didn’t matter if he was building a fort with his boys, playing catch, or just splitting firewood. Above all, however Matt’s greatest joy was being a father to Ryan and Joey. Spending time together as a family, whatever the activity, was his central focus. That included everything from camping in Glacier or catching a Mariners game to spontaneous dance parties! Matt’s bright smile lit up even the sunniest of days and he will be dearly missed by all especially his wife Heather, sons Ryan and Joey, parents Pat and Sandy, siblings Pat (Anne), Michele Canchola (Noel), Deborah Leach (Michael), and many nieces and nephews (PJ, Paul, Mark, Jessica, Demencio, Steven, and Cassy). Matt is preceded in death by his brother Michael. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21st at 2 p.m., Eatonville Baptist Church (825 Eatonville HWY E, Eatonville, 98328.
