Anyone else with knowledge about or help for Tofu House?

Thank you, Dave Reichel ("The rest of the story of the Tofu House story," The Dispatch, Jan. 4). We in the South Pierce County Historical society greatly appreciate your additional historical information about the Japanese-American community's Tofu House. And thank you for your complimentary letter regarding our preservation of this important building.

It's great to have more portions of the background story filled in. We hope others in our community who hear about the project will offer additional details about not just the building, but the people whose lives revolved around or touched it in some way.

We would also be very thankful if elder Eatonville citizens, who may have firsthand knowledge of the building and the Japanese-Americans who lived and worked in our town, would share that information with the Historical Society.

The Tofu House was originally the Eatonville Lumber Company's dairy springhouse and eventually the Tofu House. It was always run by the Japanese-Americans who also worked at the lumber company.

We continue to raise funds and collect stories about the building so that one day, hopefully sooner rather than later, it will become a part of our museum complex and open to the public.
