PEOPLE: School retirees, mountain stories

• Eatonville School District staff members Cathy Logston and Trace Mierke, who retired earlier this year, are being joined in retirement by school bus driver Alan (Skip) Simmons, who stepped down at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
To honor the retirees, the School Board hosted a reception June 14 at the school district. Cake accompanied the well-wishes. 

• The husband-and-wife writing team of Jeff and Sonja Anderson are the authors of "Mount Rainier's Historic Inns and Lodges," a new released in May b y Arcadia Publishing.
Since moving to Seattle 25 years ago, the Andersons have developed a love affair with the mountain. In their book, they dig into the stories and images of Mount Rainier National Park, which they called "a joyful task."
Among their stories: The original National Park Inn at Longmire burned to the ground but is memorialized with a plaque in the woods where it once stood. And hundreds of  "housekeeping cabins"once dotted the landscapes throughout the park.
