Traffic delays during Spanaway Loop Road project

Drivers can expect traffic delays on Spanaway Loop Road South while the road is being resurfaced the next two weeks.
Pierce County Public Works officials said the project, between Military Road South and 174th Street South, began May 24 and is scheduled to continue until June 12. The work is necessary to extend the life of the road, officials said.
Through June 1, crews are removing two inches of pavement between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The road will remain open, although lane restrictions will be in place.
The road will be repaved on weekday nights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from June 2 to June 12. Northbound traffic may be periodically detoured onto Military Road South and State Route 7 during those hours.
Spanaway Loop Road will remain open to southbound traffic, but motorists should expect 15-minute delays, officials advised.
The project's total cost is approximately $776,000. County road funds will pay for it.
In July, the road will be restriped to provide two lanes from Military to 174th. Currently, there's one lane south of 154th Street South.
