In a tense West Central District playoffs game that saw sterling defense on both sides, the Eatonville Cruisers busted out in the sixth inning to score five times and claim a 6-1 victory over Sequim last Saturday, guaranteeing their place in the regionals of the 2A state high school baseball tournament.
Before entering the regionals in two weeks, Eatonville will move on to the semifinal round of the district tourney to play Highline this Saturday at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds at 12:30 p.m. The winner will play for the district title at 3:30 against the survivor of the other seminfinal contest at the fairgrunds between Fife and North Kitsap.
With the bases loaded and the score knotted at 1-1, Eatonville's Daniel Fuller blooped a single on the right field foul line to score Justin Brandt with what proved to be the winning run. The Cruisers scored four more times, twice on a single by T.J. Goetz.
Goetz, in his role as relief pitcher, closed the game for the Cruisers by striking out two of the final four batters he faced.
Starting pitcher Colin Streich held Sequim in check with four-hit pitching over the first five innings.
Brooks Moeller drove in two runs for Eatonville.
