Documentary focuses on near-the-end

The PBS "Frontline" documentary, “Being Mortal,” which examines the relationships between patients nearing the end of their lives and the doctors who serve them, will be screened May 13 at the South Hill branch of Pierce County Library System.

The free showing, scheduled for 2 p.m., will be hosted by Pierce County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center (ADRC) and will be followed by discussions led by representatives of CHI Franciscan Health’s Hospice and Palliative Care.

The library is located at 15420 Meridian E.

"Being Mortal," featuring Dr. Atul Gawande, the surgeon who wrote the book of the same name, focuses on living a good life to the very end. An ADRC spokesman said the audience will learn how older adults, families and caregivers can focus on improved quality of life, and feel more prepared to weigh end-of-life options and communicate healthcare decisions.

ADRC, a division of county government, provides information and assistance for older adults and adults with disabilities.

CHI Franciscan’s Hospice and Palliative Care is one of the largest hospice providers in Washington.
