Cruiser Girls Drop Opening Week Games

The Cruiser girls hit the hardwood this past Tuesday night, Nov. 27, to kick off the 2018-19 season. They started things off with match up against the Rochester Warriors.

The Cruisers kept things close in the first half. Senior Jaelin Hotz lead the Cruisers in scoring at the half with 8 points, followed by freshman Hailey Rath who chipped in 7 to send the Lady Cruisers in to the half down 25-24 to the Warriors.

The second half saw the Warriors pull away as they went up by 11 to start the fourth quarter. Hotz threw out another 10 points in the third quarter to keep the Cruisers within striking distance.

The fourth quarter found junior guard Brooklyn Lucht heating up and adding 10 points to Hotz’s 6. The Warrior defense and 16 Cruiser turnovers in the second half was their demise as they fell 73-60 to the Warriors.

Hotz would finish the night with 26 points to lead the Cruisers.

The following night, the Cruisers traveled to Tenino to take on the Beavers in hopes of turning things around and picking up their first win of the season.

Great shooting and defense by the Beavers combined with a poor shooting performance by the Cruisers, sent them to the half down 27-14.

The Cruisers saw more of the same in the second half and eventually fell to the Beavers 48-34 and left the Cruisers 0-2 to start the first week of the season.

Jaelin Hotz and Brooklyn Lucht would lead the Cruiser with 10 points each.

The Cruisers will look to bounce back in games against Steilacoom and Orting on Dec. 4 and Dec. 7 respectively.
