Lady Cruisers get on track after failed first week

After a couple of losses to non-league opponents to open up the 2018-19 season, the Lady Cruiser basketball team righted the ship with a convincing 56-38 victory over league opponent Steilacoom on Dec. 4.

The Sentinels kept things close in the first quarter. Eatonville freshman Kya Stewart carried the Cruisers with 6 points and eight rebounds.  In the second quarter, junior Brooklyn Lucht caught fire down low on the post for the Cruisers where she banged home 11 points to send the Cruisers into the locker room holding a 29-13 lead.

Lucht would open up second half with more of the same, and contribute 6 more points towards her game high 20. Senior Jaelin Hotz would pitch in with 6 points in the half, and Stewart would bring down more boards for her game high 17 rebounds as the Cruisers took down the Sentinels by a score of 56-38 to pick up their first win of the season.

The Lady Cruisers started a winning streak as they traveled to Cardinal Country to take on their long-time rivals, Orting.

The Cardinals kept the Cruisers on their toes in the first quarter and kept it close with the Cruisers holding a 13-12 advantage as they started up the second quarter.  The Cruisers pulled away to head into the locker room at halftime up 32-26.

The second half brought much of the same as the Cruisers continued their tough defense. Turnovers plagued the Cardinals all night and the Cruisers took advantage. The Cardinals turned the ball over 31 times, which the Cruisers converted into 31 points off of those turnovers. The Lady Cruisers opened up a double-digit lead as the game came to a close to take the win with a 64 - 51 victory to improve their overall record to 2 - 2 overall and 2 - 0 in league play and a tie for first place.

The Lady Cruisers will play an away game at White River on Dec. 11 and will play a home game against Franklin Pierce on Friday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
