Local soldier recognized for work in free-fall training

A soldier from Eatonville performed a free-fall training in Guam, according to a press release from the U.S. Navy Office of Community Outreach.

Alex Kaye, from Eatonville, is a Chief Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician for the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 (EODMU 5).

“EODMU 5 is assigned to Commander, Task Force 75, the primary expeditionary task force responsible for the planning and execution of coastal riverine operations, explosive ordinance disposal, diving engineering and construction, and underwater construction in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations,” the press release stated.

Service members assigned to EODMU-5 participate in a two-day military free fall training operation in order to improve proficiency and maintain jump qualifications.

“It’s important to conduct this training because military free-fall is a perishable skill that must be exercised to remain viable,” Senior Chief Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician Steve Cho, from Los Angeles, assigned to EODMU 5, stated in the press release.
