PEOPLE: Full-ride to Duke

• Aidan Floyd, a Bethel High School senior, has been accepted into Duke University on a full-ride scholarship that’s worth more than $200,000.
Starting later this year, Floyd will attend Duke as a Questbridge scholar. The honor, which was offered to just 900 students in the country, will pay for Floyd’s tuition, room and board, books, and travel expenses during her time at Duke, private university in Durham, N.C. that accepts fewer than 10 percent of applicants.
“When I was young, my mom told me that I said I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. She didn’t know where I even found that word,” said Floyd, who still loves science and hopes to become a neurologist.
At Bethel, Floyd is president of the National Honors Society Club and is a member of the Philosophy Club while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. She also plays flute in the Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble.
Floyd gives credit for her academic success to her teachers in the Bethel School District -- first at Roy Elementary School, then at Cougar Mountain Middle School, and finally at Bethel High.
“Mostly, they have inspired me to help other people, like through tutoring,” Floyd said.

• Tania Rodgers, who is from Spanaway, has graduated from Troy University with a bachelor of science degree.
Troy has three campuses in Alabama.
