The Pierce County Sheriff Department asked for and received a public show of support for deputy Daniel McCartney and his family in a final salute of the life and service of the fallen officer Jan. 17.
Citizens lined the sidewalks and shoulders of streets to watch a procession of 650 emergency vehicles in honor of McCartney from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to Pacific Lutheran University. family have come from private citizens, other police agencies, students
at schools such as Graham Elementary School, businesses such as the Eatonville-area Varsity Pizza, which held a fund-raiser for his family, elected officials, and even the New York Yankees, who carried on a recent tradition for the baseball team of recognizing the deaths of police officers anywhere in the U.S. by sending a wreath of flowers in McCartney's name.
Another tribute came from McCartney's sons. At the invitation of the Sheriff Department, they named its newest K9 dog Deputy Dan. The 1-year-oldGerman shepherd from a kennel in Pen
