Saralyn Hehemann, a kindergartener at Columbia Crest A-STEM school in Ashford, cuts the ribbon on the school's new $6,000 greenhouse, donated by the Mt. Rainier Ashford Lions members. This greenhouse will allow the students (who range from 5 to 14 years old) an opportunity to learn about growing plants, fruits and vegetables. During the 2018-19 school year, all students will actively learn in the garden through a hands-on-health elective. Each grade level will have their own raised bed to grow the crop that aligns with their studies. Once they've grown enough to harvest, the crops will be part of the school lunch options for students.
