On March 6, in front of family, friends, and teammates at Elevate Martial Arts Center in Yelm, Eatonville High School female wrestling standout Olivia Branson signed her national letter of intent to wrestle next season at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen.

Branson, a senior, compiled one of the state’s best records this past wrestling season finishing 42-10 with 39 pins which are both school records.
Branson is also the first wrestler ever from Eatonville High, male or female, to accept a college scholarship for wrestling.

The Grays Harbor College Lady Chokers are coached by Andy Cook, who is also the Washington Women’s National Team Coach and a U.S. World Team Coach for women’s wrestling.  Grays Harbor, in only their second full season this year, placed 7th in Nationals and are looking to improve on that next year with the addition of Branson and several other recruits from around the country.

When asked how he feels about adding Branson to the Choker roster Cook said, “I am always in search of the next big name and I know they come from places people don’t expect, with a very diverse program with kids from all over the country we’re excited about finding local gems like Olivia.”

Branson is equally as excited about the opportunity to wrestle at the next level.

“The opportunity I have been given is mind blowing and I am ready for the challenge ahead,” she said. “My goal is to be a National Champion and I am confident with my new teammates, the coaches at Grays Harbor, their guidance, and with my hard work and determination, I will reach my goals. I want to use my platform as a female college wrestler to make an impact on younger female wrestlers who will one day be in my position.”

Branson also realizes she would not be in this position if not for several important people in her life.

“My mom, Carolina and my dad, Michael, for helping me grow as a person and always being there for me. My sister, Nadia, for always attending all of my events and for always being so thoughtful. Brad Pole for introducing me to this sport and for helping me grow as an athlete. Thank you for taking time out of your day to help grow all of the young wrestlers in our community and for believing in me.  My [Elevate Martial Arts Center] family and my EHS wrestling team mates.  Thank you to the Iriass family, Haley and Frank Wellman and Brian Hansen for all you have done for me in wrestling and my MMA career.”

Brad Pole is owner of Elevate Martial Arts Center and Branson’s martial arts coach.
