Snowshoer's body found near Paradise in Rainier National Park

The search for a missing snowshoer in Rainier National Park ended last Tuesday when the man's body was recovered.

Kevin Kim, 24, of Texas, died of traumatic injuries after falling a great distance in the Nisqually drainiage below Paradise.

Kim had gone missing overnight after becoming separated from his partner while descending from the Muir Snowfield.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity.

Search efforts for Kim began at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 12 with a quick search of the main routes between Paradise (at 5,400' elevation) and Panorama Point (7,000'). Teams did not find clues as to his wherabouts by the time they returned at 9:30 p.m.

Mountain Rescue teams from Everett, Tacoma, Seattle and Olympia joined teams from Mt. Rainier National Park in the search.
The Washington State SAR Planning Unit worked with park command staff on incident planning.

Northwest Helicopters and the military provided aviation resources. There were 32 people assigned to the incident.
