Puget Sound energy offers rebates to help keep heating bills down

After successfully lobbying to lower heating bills this winter, Puget Sound Energy is reminding customers to winterize their homes to help keep bills even smaller.

According to a Puget Sound Energy press release, the average home wastes up to $1,200 a year because of fixable issues such as leaks, old light bulbs and inefficient water heating.

“With the end of daylight savings on Sunday, Nov. 4, Puget Sound Energy is encouraging customers to use the shorter, colder days to avoid high energy bills,” the press release stated.

Here is a winterization checklist, providing by Puget Sound Energy;

• Replace old insulation – Weatherizing your home can save 15 percent on heating costs, according to the press release. Fill, patch or caulk holes in floors, walls and ceilings. Puget Sound Energy offers weatherization rebates at www.pse.com/rebates/insulation.
• Update outdoor lighting with LED bulbs – Now is the time to check all outdoor lighting as extreme temperatures can shorten a light bulb’s lifespan. Replace old bulbs with LEDs, which last up to 25 years longer, use at least 80 percent less energy and can save customers money on their energy bills.
• Schedule a free home energy assessment – Free assessments can be scheduled at www.pse.com/rebates/home-energy-assessment and a Puget Sound Energy employee will find “efficiency upgrade opportunities” at each customers’ home.
