There is still time to enter non-animal entries into the Lacamas Community Fair. The event is accepting all such entries from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2.
"Any one can enter items into the fair from young to old," states the fair's Facebook page."...Enter any yeast bread and win a prize from our sponsors at Red Star Yeast as well as some yeast for the next baking project."
The Lacamas Community Fair itself will kick off its events on Aug. 24 and continue its festivities through Aug. 25 at 32113 8th Ave. S., in Roy.
The fair is free to all those who want to attend, and will offer a bevy of entertainment and activities for all ages.
According to the Facebook page, there is a penny scramble and watermelon-eating contest both days at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m., respectively. The cupcake decorating contest, with all supplies donated for free, will begin its layering of sweet glucose at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24. Next, at 2 p.m. on Sunday the fair will host its popular Lego Building Contest — just bring a box of Legos.
During the Lego Building Contest, folks will have 20 minutes to build anything their imaginations — and supply materials — will allow.
"At the end of the Fair on Sunday (about 3:30 p.m.) we will have a three legged race and finish with the egg toss," the Facebook page states.
The event will also feature horses, dogs, poultry, cats, goats and mini houses. Other activities for the little ones include face painting, crafts and stick-horse building.
In all the time that the fair has been running, it has never charged a fee for participation — the only thing people should have to pay for is food.
According to the fair website, the event began back in 1929 when a bunch of community members all came together and brought samples of produce, which they arranged for display on a common table.
"Those were lean years and everyone depended upon the produce from their gardens to supplement the small incomes of the depression days," the website states. "That was the beginning of the Lacamas Community Fair, which, with the exceptions of the war years, has been an annual event ever since."
