Lady Cruiser basketball picks up win before holiday break

On Tuesday last week, the Lady Cruiser basketball team travelled to Buckley to take on the #4 ranked in the state White River Hornets.

The Hornets have been outscoring their opponents by an average of 31 points so far this season, so the Cruisers knew they would have their hands full coming into this league match up.

White River (7-1) held the Cruisers to under 10 points in every quarter and outscored them in three of the four quarters. The Cruisers would win the fourth quarter by outscoring the Hornets 8-6, but it was little to late as the Hornets would take the win by a score of 61-28.

Brooklynn Lucht and Hailey Rath led the Cruisers with 9 points apiece.

Hoping to bounce back from the White River game, the Cruisers were in the comfy confines of Rainier Connect Arena as they played host to the 7-2 Franklin Pierce Cardinals on Thursday.

The Cruisers had three players in double digits on the night, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Cardinals downed the Cruisers 58-48 to drop the Cruisers to 2-4 on the season.

Kya Stewart would lead Eatonville with 16 points. Madison Dunbar had a break-out game for the Cruisers scoring a season high 13 points in the loss.

After suffering two losses during the week, the Cruisers looked to turn things around when the Tenino Beavers came to Rainier Connect Arena in a non-league match up on Friday night.

The game stayed close through the first two quarters and the Cruisers would trail 21-20 at the half.

In the third quarter, Eatonville took the lead and lead the Beavers 40-36 as the final quarter began.

The Cruiser defense really clamped down in the fourth quarter and only allowed 9 Beaver points while they put 15 points on the board to take the 10 point win, 55-45.

Hailey Rath and Kya Stewart led all scores in the game with 17 points each. Freshman Sophia Henley kicked in a season high 9 points.

The Lady Cruisers will now enjoy a 12 day break over the holidays before they host Elma on January 2nd.
