Lady Cruisers drop the opening round game at play offs

After defeating the Steilacoom Sentinels on Feb. 1, the Lady Cruisers earned the No. 10 seed in the West Central District 3 playoffs. That matched them up against no. 7 seed Franklin Pierce High School.

The Cruisers traveled to Parkland to take on the Cardinals on Feb. 7 in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament.

The teams had split in the two previous meetings they had against each other. Eatonville took the first game 51-36 and Franklin Pierce took the second, 48-35.

The Lady Cruisers took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter behind Kaedyn Byrd’s 3 points and four rebounds.

The Cardinals outscored the Cruisers in the second and took a 16-14 lead into the half. Kya Stewart scored 7 points in the quarter, which was the only scoring for Eatonville.

The Cruisers kept the game close until the final few minutes when the Cardinals pulled ahead and take the victory, 40-32.

Stewart would lead the Cruisers with a double-double. Scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 boards in the loss.

The Cruisers dropped into the loser’s bracket and will play the loser of the Sequim vs. White River game on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at Washington High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
