With their 5-1 league record on the line, the Eatonville Cruisers girls’ basketball team took a trip to Lacey to take on the River Ridge Hawks on Jan. 8.
The Cruiser defense stymied the Hawks and only allowed 2 points in the first quarter while the Hawks would allow 15 Eatonville points.
The second quarter saw much of the same as the Hawks couldn’t get through the tough Cruiser defense. Eatonville held River Ridge to 4 points in the second quarter to take a 26-6 lead into half time. Senior Jaelin Hotz led the Cruisers at the half with 9 points and seven rebounds.
River Ridge had no answer for the Cruisers all night. Eatonville extended their halftime lead to 36 points at the end of the third quarter and led 46-10.
The Cruisers finished off the Hawks in the fourth quarter and took a 58-18 victory, which improved their league record to 6-1.
Senior Peyton Hutchings and freshman Kya Stewart heated up in the second half for the Cruisers. Hutchings added 10 points in the half and finished with 13 points, leading the team in scoring in the night. Stewart would add 9 to her first half total and end the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cruisers took a night off before traveling to Clover Park to take on the Warriors in a league matchup on Friday, Jan. 11.
Much like their game on Tuesday night, the Cruiser defense tightened down on the Warriors and caused them havoc all night and finished them off with a 74-20 victory.
Leading the Cruisers in the night was freshman Hailey Rath, who dropped in 19 points for the Cruisers.
The Cruisers have now won three in a row and improved to 7-1 in league play and a firm grasp on second place. The Cruisers will play host to Orting on Monday, Jan. 14, which is senior night for the Eatonville Cruisers boys' and girls' basketball teams.
