Cougars pounce Cruisers

With last week’s loss to the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats behind them, the Cruisers would face an old foe in the Cascade Christian Cougars. Eatonville and Cascade Christian would battle it out for many years when the Cruisers were in the Nisqually League when they were in the 1A classification.

At the helm for the Cougars was quarterback Parker Johnson, who recently committed to play football next season at Yale University. Johnson would show just why the storied Ivy League school offered him a scholarship.

Cascade Christian would start off the scoring when Johnson would find Connor Zetterberg streaking across the field and would connect with him for a 75 yard scoring play. After the extra point, they would take a 7-0 lead.

The Cruisers would answer back as the first quarter came to a close. Freshman Job Kralik would kick a field goal from 28 yards out. The Cougars would lead 7-3.

Parker Johnson would connect again with Zetterberg three more times on the night with scoring strikes of 85, 70, and 30 yards. Zetterberg would finish the night with four touchdowns to set a school record.

The Cruiser secondary had troubles containing Zetterberg and Johnson would have pin point accuracy to get the ball to him all night.

With Caden Jumper out with a hand injury, senior Zach Smith with handle the quarterback duties for the Cruisers. Smith would score twice for the Cruisers on designed quarterback keeper plays of 12 and 33 yards. Smith would also find Nick Sawyer from 10 yards out for another Cruiser score. Senior Alex Brymer would pick up the Cruisers fourth and final touchdown of the night on a five yard scamper.

It was a tough night for the Cruisers, dropping this one to the Cougars by a final score of 33-30.

Next up for the Cruisers, the will host their longtime rivals, the Orting Cardinals on Friday, September 20th. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
