Wagner Performing Arts Center was standing-room-only Saturday, May 17 for the 10th Annual Monroe Lip Sync, a fundraiser for scholarships for high school students.
The Lip Sync was begun by five Monroe moms in 2004. Gina Dahlinger, Erin Kingery, Randie Olson, Jenny Schroeder, and Kathi Cooley wanted to help at least one child go to college, even if it was just paying for some books or helping with one semester's tuition. In its first year, Lip Sync had 110 people in the audience and raised enough for $300 in scholarship money. Since then, the Monroe Lip Sync has awarded over $18,000 to 20 students. This year, there were more than 600 people in the audience, and the event raised $3,200 for scholarships.
