Antique business opens in Camp Building

By Polly Keary
After months of setbacks, Colleen Gallagher has opened an antiques business in the historic Camp Building at 108 W. Main St.
The new business is called Camp 1923 and looks a bit more like a dining room furniture showroom than a traditional antiques store inside. The layout is very open, with tables everywhere displaying the antique dishes and china in which Gallagher specializes.
Along the wall are displays of original art or antiques sold by various vendors. But as of yet, the majority of the store's contents are Gallagher's.
Gallagher is a lifelong collector, and among her interests are Wedgewood, Royal Albert and Lennox china, of which there are numerous examples in the store.
Gallagher has occupied the building since last spring, but a broken ankle set her back weeks.
So far her store occupies half of the Camp Building, with the other half used for storage. But Gallagher's mother just closed a high-end antique store in Texas and is bringing her inventory to Monroe.
Eventually Gallagher hopes to fill the whole building, with half occupied by vendors.
