Bark for Life this weekend

From the smallest schnauzer to the stockiest Staffordshire, canines of all shapes and sizes are welcome at Monroe's Lake Tye Park this weekend for the 2016 Sky Valley Bark for Life event.

Sky Valley Bark for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the world's largest cancer fundraising effort. The event, which takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 22, is meant to honor the relationship between humans and their four-legged companions and raise awareness of canine cancer. This year's event will be preceded by the first Kickin' Cancer five-kilometer run/walk, which includes two laps around Lake Tye.

Registration for the run/walk opens at 8 a.m., and the event starts at 8:30. The top male and female finishers in each age group will receive a prize.

Teams registered for the upcoming Sky Valley Relay for Life event are eligible to have a fundraising table at Bark for Life free of charge. The event includes treats for humans and dogs, music and other activities. Local nonprofit rescue and adoption agency Washington Bully Alliance will be on hand with one or two four-legged furry friends, We Go Espresso will provide coffee and food will be available.
