Bearcat Mini Cheer squad registration now open

Registration is now open for the Bearcat Mini Cheer Association, a nonprofit youth cheer squad based in Monroe.

Bearcat Mini Cheer is open to boys and girls age five through 14. The practices start in mid-October, and will be held 5:30-7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Frank Wagner Elementary School gym, 115 Dickinson Road. The Bearcat Mini Cheer Association cheers in support of Monroe Select Basketball, a local youth-oriented basketball league. Games are played on Saturdays.

The squad is typically made up of 25-30 youth, divided up into three or four squads. The cost to join is $200, which includes uniforms and insurance.

Monroe resident Tiffany Martin serves as the coach and director, with support from her assistant coach, Monroe High School varsity cheerleader Bailey Martin. Throughout the season, Tiffany and Bailey plan to invite other members of the Monroe High School Bearcat cheer squad to serve as guest coaches.

"My goal is for the kids to have fun and build confidence,GÇ¥ Tiffany said.

The squad includes an element of community service. Tiffany is planning on facilitating several outreach events, including a coat drive and visits to the Sky Valley Senior Center and Regency Care Center to promote volunteerism.

Registration is open for the next two weeks. For more information about the Bearcat Mini Cheer Association, visit www.facebook.com/BearcatMiniCheer/timeline. For a registration packet, email bearcatminicheer@hotmail.com.
