Construction for the City of Monroe's North Blakeley Infiltration Project is anticipated to continue for up to six months.
The project provides for the resurfacing of Hill Street from Madison Street to Ferry Street, and N. Blakeley Street between Main Street and Hill Street. Depending on the location, street restoration may include just that portion between the existing curbs, or include new curbing and sidewalks.
The purpose of this project is to separate the stormwater collection system from the sanitary sewer system, as currently they are combined. Another goal was to repair aging pavements and reset the road crown to a more comfortable slope.
The Department of Ecology is a major funding partner and has provided a grant to help realize this project.
The contractor who will be completing the work is SRV Construction Inc. based out of Oak Harbor. The contractor is allowed 130 work days (approximately six months) to complete the work, but SRV has indicated that their goal is to complete this work much sooner, barring inclement weather or unforeseen problems.
The city of Monroe will work with the contractor to determine the best approach, considering project duration, access issues, and disruptions. If necessary, detour routes will be established to provide continued access to businesses and homes. Parking will still be available on streets adjacent to the work zone.
