Business Notes: Applebee's could demolish Eggnest building, construct restaurant

A man interested in bringing an Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill to Monroe is exploring the possibility of demolishing the building that held Patty's Eggnest before it closed last year and constructing a new restaurant in its place.
Bryant Bronson of Seattle has requested a meeting with the city permit department as soon as possible to talk about the 1.88 acre parcel at 19845 U.S. Highway 2.
"We're exploring the option of demolishing the existing outparcel retail building on the west side of Monroe Plaza and rebuilding an Applebee's in its place,GÇ¥ Bronson wrote on an application.
The current building, which also holds the former Video Factory, as well as GNC and Starbucks, is about 10,000 square feet. The new restaurant would be 5,000 square feet.
Applebee's is a national chain of more than 2,000 casual dining restaurants serving American fare such as shrimp, "ribletsGÇ¥ and pasta. The chain was founded in Georgia in 1980 and bought in 2007 by IHOP.
Fast food restaurant Wendy's is also said to exploring a Monroe location, but so far the city has not heard from the company about a permit.
Local baked goods to join farm stand fare

First Pick Produce on the corner of Tualco Road and SR 203 just south of Monroe has added a line of locally-made baked goods to its farm stand fare.
Sandy Meyer of Monroe, author of a very visual step-by-step cooking blog called Scratch This w/Sandy, will bring things like caramel apple sweet rolls, Amish white bread and cinnamon rolls with maple frosting to First Pick Saturday mornings starting May 10.
