City taking lodging tax grant requests

The city of Monroe is now accepting applications for second-round grant funding through the Lodging Tax Fund, to support people and organizations promoting tourism in the Monroe area.

The special application period in will award roughly $30,000 in additional grants, after higher lodging excise tax than expected was collected in 2016. The regular grant cycle will take place in November 2017, and will award approximately $80,000.

Grant applications are due to city executive assistant Pamela Baker no later than 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Applications are available at www.monroewa.gov/ltac or at city hall, 806 W. Main St. Grant distribution is expect in late March.
