Community buy-in, participation vital to Sultan & Sky Valley Block Watch Network

In May, when The Sky Valley Community Block Watch Network was re-established in response to a rising number of incidents including burglary, petty theft, car prowls and illegal drug activity, it was determined that Block Watch would be a community-driven organization made up of volunteers.
Initially, Sultan resident and VFW Junior Vice Commander Joe Stone stepped forward to lead the group and facilitate the meetings. Although Stone recently turned the leadership of the group over to Sultan resident Bob Klement, he remains involved in the program.
Since taking over as the Block Watch Captain, Klement has sought ways to boost community interest in the program and accommodate all citizens who wish to attend the meetings. He is hopeful that he can keep the Block Watch program robust and meaningful.
The next Block Watch meeting is set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Sultan at the Sky Valley Eagles facility. Child care is free during the meeting and food and drinks are available for purchase.
Klement is open to feedback as to what types of topics residents would like to see addressed.
Sky Valley Eagles is located at 1112 E. Main St. in Sultan. For more information about Block Watch, please visit the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SultanBlockWatch/, or email: sultanblockwatch@gmail.com.
