Snohomish Conservation District will provide free technical assistance to rural and urban landowners on various habitat, farm and stream/river issues along U.S. 2 between Sultan and Monroe. Through this grant, funded by the Washington Department of Ecology, the District and its partner, Sound Salmon Solutions, will provide workshops, farm tours and neighborhood kitchen meetings to residents in the area.
The first two of many workshops planned will be October 20 at the Fern Bluff Grange, 32401 Cascade View Dr. in Sultan from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 9 to 10:30 a.m. the workshop will cover winterizing property for livestock owners. Register for the Fall Farm Tips class at sultanfarmtips.eventbrite.com.
From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the workshop will cover protecting septic systems to prevent costly repairs. Register for the Septic Sense class at sultanseptic.eventbrite.com.
These classes are designed to help landowners keep chore time easy, prepare for fall rains, and protect onsite septic systems. Admission to both workshops are free.
The Conservation District and Sound Salmon Solutions will also work with landowners along a slough south of Sultan called Tychman Slough to restore six acres of streamside habitat to reduce soil erosion and improve water quality in the slough and the Skykomish River.
