Dolores (Dodie) H. Passey April 27, 1942 - April 16, 2018

Dolores (Dodie) H. Passey passed away on April 16, 2018 after a long and valiant battle with cancer.  Dodie was born Dolores Harriet Schones on April 27, 1942 in Oceanside, California, grew up in Costa Mesa, California and lived most of her life in the Pacific Northwest.

Dodie radiated beauty from the inside out and this beauty along with an easy smile drew people to her.  She had a high moral calling and loved Jesus with all her heart and she shared this same love with those she met along her path.  Her relationships were deep and meaningful and she had the ability to make anyone that came into her home feel as if they were family.

Dodie was not pretentious in anyway, yet she was accomplished in all that she took on.  She did everything to the best of her ability and to the rest of us that was perfection, but she never saw it that way. She created beauty wherever she went and whatever she touched, whether that is gardening, fishing, cooking, sewing, watercolor painting, housekeeping, lawn mowing, firewood gathering, equestrian endeavors, social gatherings or even hospital stays.

Dodie never had life easy and she was dealt some realities that would take down the best of us, yet she never was the victim. She found her strength in God and who God is and she knew He would carry her through.  She rose out of bed every day, put on her charismatic smile, her make up and went about her day doing the things she loved doing and living life to the fullest right to the very end.

In her final days she allowed those of us the grace to care for her in all her needs with such dignity as to scribe herself onto our souls.

Dodie was preceded in death by her father and mother Joe and Harriet Schones, her eldest son Richard (Rick) Ruhnke, and her sister-in-law Sande Schones.  She is survived by her husband Don Passey and his three children (Janine, Michelle and Aaron) and their spouses.  By her three sons Phil, Jon and Steve Ruhnke and their spouses along with12 grandchildren.  Dodie was the third of six surviving siblings Stan and Roberta Schones, Jim and Judy Schones, Gary and Jan Schones, Judy and Pat Curtis, Bob and Melody Schones, Linda Forth and Frank Fregosi.

Mom you will be forever in our hearts and we look forward with assurance that we will meet again to cast our lines in waters rich in salmon;  no more death, no more pain, no more sorrow.  We all love you with an inexpressible love and a hole that will forever be present.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville, Idaho.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville.
