East County Precinct Sheriff's Report, September, 2014

Auto thefts and recoveries: We experienced a spike in stolen vehicle recoveries and vehicle thefts around the region, specifically in and around Gold Bar in early September. On Sept. 9, a citizen reported two individuals walking away from a suspicious vehicle. Deputies found the dumped-stolen vehicle and located three subjects walking in the immediate area, two of whom appeared to match the suspect descriptions. Several leads were developed in these incidents but the crimes are not yet "solved.GÇ¥ The investigation is ongoing. The recovered vehicles were stolen from locations ranging from Auburn to Snohomish. The frequency of these incidents significantly decreased after mid-month, about the same time deputies started contacting and questioning many of the area residents known to be frequently involved in theft related crimes.
Nuisance properties: We have worked with city staff to identify a few nuisance properties in Gold Bar. The criteria for this designation includes several, but not necessarily all, of the following: criminal activities, solid waste violations, unlawful structures, RVs used as additional dwellings, disturbances, noise complaints, animal complaints, trespassing and/or squatting, multiple known criminals frequenting or residing upon, various code violations, fire code violations, health code violations, short-stay high-volume traffic, abandoned or derelict vehicles, etc. One property on 415th Avenue has been an ongoing project for at least 13 months. A project to bring a second property near City Hall into compliance has been outlined and begun, with some early improvement noted but much more required.
Deputy Reassignment: Deputy Alex Ross tested early this year to be placed on an eligibility roster for anticipated openings in a specialty unit. He has moved to this unit for a temporary assignment that is likely to become long-term. Deputy Craig Hess is currently filling the temporary vacancy. If the transfer becomes long-term, Deputy Stephen Gray will transfer from his current shift to assume Deputy Ross' shift. I have begun the selection process to identify a replacement.
