Everett Community College is celebrating the growth of its East County programs and strong partnerships with local schools, government and businesses at an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the college's East County Campus, Lake Tye Building, 14090 Fryelands Blvd. S.E., third floor, in Monroe.
Attendees may tour the recently expanded space and hear from representatives from the cities of Monroe, Snohomish and Sultan, as well as EvCC President David Beyer about the 14-year history of higher education in East Snohomish County.
EvCC's East County locations served 876 students in 2012-13, a 36 percent increase from the previous year.
"We're anticipating enrollment will double within five years,GÇ¥ East County Campus Director Rob Prosch said. "We're grateful for the support from the school districts, city governments and business organizations in Monroe, Snohomish and Sultan to help us provide classes close to home for East Snohomish County residents.GÇ¥
The college has more than doubled the number of classes offered in one year GÇô from 10 classes last fall to 23 classes this fall.
Fall classes began Sept. 23.
EvCC began offering evening classes in 1999 at Monroe High School. The college added daytime classes with the opening of its East County Campus in the Lake Tye Building in 2010. This summer, EvCC began renting an additional 1,000 square feet in the Lake Tye Building for more classroom and office space, bringing the total space to about 7,000 square feet.
The college now offers college credit, basic skills and English as a Second Language classes, a composites technician certification program and corporate training in East Snohomish County. Classes are held at the Lake Tye Building, Monroe High School, Park Place Middle School and Snohomish High School.
