Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Sno-King Chapter is engaged in an ongoing nutrient enhancement program in partnership with the Tulalip Nation and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on the Skykomish River system.
This involves transporting whole and ground-up, spawned-out salmon to streams, creeks and rivers from the WDFW's Wallace Hatchery.
Smolt and juvenile salmon need the decomposing carcasses for nourishment in a critical time of their development. By distributing the carcasses throughout the Skykomish River system, nutrients will reach a broader population of young salmon ' both wild and hatchery-raised ' to increase survival percentages. The Skykomish River system includes the Snoqualmie, Snohomish, Skykomish and Wallace rivers, along with their tributaries.
CCA (www.joinCCA.org) is the largest marine conservation and advocacy organization in the United States and is a 501c3 nonprofit.
CCA Sno-King Chapter has approximately 225 members from the Monroe, Snohomish and Woodinville area and meets the fourth Thursday of the month.
