This photo was taken after a fire as the building is charred and the windows gone. The building at left with Bascom Insurance is clearly the one at 111 W. Main St. which burned in the 1960s. The building to the left, 107 W. Main, with the broken windows was replaced around 1909 with the new two-story Monroe National Bank Building.
Identities are tentative, but the man standing at center foreground facing the camera may be E. Milton Stephens, the one in the white smock may be Charles F. Elwell, and the one next to him in the bowler hat may be John A. Vanasdlen.
