Flashback: Evergreen State Fairgrounds

This photo was taken from the air in approximately 1960.
In 1912, the county bought this land from Wagner and Wilson, which adjoined the north side of the County Poor Farm, in a plan to make the Poor Farm self-sustaining through agricultural production.
In 1948 the county fair was moved to the site. Although 1953 is written on the top of the photo, Tom Worley remembers working on the construction of the auto racing track (the large oval) in 1958 or 1959 for Dick Norton, the owner of Aurora Towing.
The track was cut with a D-9 cat, then asphalt was laid and daylight racing started the following year.
