Flashback: Monroe United Methodist Church

This photo of Monroe United Methodist Church on S. Lewis Street was taken shortly after it was built in 1924
The church, then called the Methodist-Episcopal Church, was the first church in Monroe. Members began by meeting in Austins' barn until 1896, when they completed a handsome, white church and parsonage. That was replaced by the present brick church in 1924 at the same location.
