This photo looks east on Main Street from Blakeley Street in approximately 1963. The photo pairs with photo 1519 (published in the Nov. 13, 2012 Monroe Monitor) to give a before-and-after photo of when SR 522 was temporarily routed down Main Street from early 1962 until the final segment of SR 522 was built in 1967.
For SR 522 to be routed through town, angle parking had to give way to parallel parking and the blinking four-way stoplight at Main and Lewis Streets was changed to a regular timed stoplight.
