The Sky Valley Food Bank is asking for donations as the winter months approach. Senior citizens and needy families, already enduring cutbacks in the SNAP food program during the government shutdown, will feel the chill of fall and winter.
Money donations are the most helpful, as they will allow the Sky Valley food bank to buy non-perishable food in bulk, as well as pay for holiday meals and turkeys.
Financial donations also help the food bank conduct its annual toy drive, giving away more than 600 gifts to less-privileged kids during the holidays.
"This is a crucial time for the food bank. The whole of Sky Valley is a great community that always comes through,GÇ¥ said Neil Watkins, Executive Director of the Sky Valley Food Bank. "We distribute food on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9-11:30 a.m. and Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. (for those working or going to school only).GÇ¥
Food donations are accepted Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8-11:30 a.m., and Monday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. Please call ahead for large quantities such as truckloads or all-day food drive donations.
