Galaxy Chocolate teams up with Scholastic Books to put reading materials on wish lists

Community volunteers Mary Black and Polly Bridgewater are collaborating with Galaxy Chocolates owner Kathryne Paz and Scholastic Books to ensure that books are included on Christmas lists across the Sky Valley.

To help meet that goal, Bridgewater and Black are holding a buy-one-get-one-free book sale extravaganza at Galaxy Chocolates in Sultan Thursday, Dec. 10, through Saturday, Dec. 12. The books, courtesy of Scholastic Books, will be available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day of the sale. Reading materials will be available for all different levels of readers, from picture books to novels.

Bridgewater, an advocate for childhood reading, implemented a program at Sultan Elementary School called Read-at-Home, an incentivized program designed to encourage kids to read books. Bridgewater was honored by the city of Sultan in April 2014 for her efforts with the program, along with Vick's Burger Shack owner Mark Vick, who supported Bridgewater's efforts by donating gift cards for her to give as prizes.

Books also make an excellent donation item for the Volunteers of America (VOA) holiday gifting program, Bridgewater said.

Galaxy Chocolates is at 501 Main St. in Sultan.
