The Gold Bar Farmer's Market is open for business and has more than doubled in vendors since its first round last year.
Rosalyn's Art Studio owner Rosalyn Santerre organizes the open-air market. She said she is still looking for vendors this year and hoping to make it an official farmer's market. The weekly event is held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at 428 Croft Ave., in Gold Bar.
“To be a full-fledged farmer's market, you have to be 75 percent farmers,” she said.
Santerre said she has been told by local growers that they don't believe they can participate because they don't have matured produce. She said there is a lot of room to sell what is cropping up this time of year.
“Gold Bar is 90 percent gardeners,” Santerre said.
Pixie Dance Hoops owner Shannon Dey Zuanich was set up at the first and potentially most colorful tent Saturday, May 20. She said she started out selling her products at the market last year.
Zuanich said she had been a bartender for many years, and was pleased to find something that finally allowed her to leverage and pursue her long-time interest in opening her own business.
Santerre said she needs one week of advanced notice to make room for a new vendor. She said the person running the booth needs to provide their own tent and pay $25. Santerre is also looking for musicians. She said performers make about $50 in tips per day, on average.
The market will run through the fall, and an associated harvest festival will be held in October. Santerre said to double-check on holidays to make sure the market is operating during its regular hours, and for any special events.
