H3O Development wants to bring in Aktion Parks to own and operate the proposed wakeboard facility at Lake Tye Park, but will need an extension from the city of Monroe.
The matter has been added to the Monroe City Council agenda for Tuesday, Aug. 23, during which Monroe City Administrator Gene Brazel will provide an update to the council. According to the concessionaire agreement between H3O and the city, H3O had until Aug. 17 to either provide written notice to the city confirming the cable park facility will be open for use by the public no later than Sept. 4, or to request an extension of the deadline.
In an email sent at 7:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, H3O managing partner Greg Dick informed Brazel that Propullsion Cablepark will not be open by Sept. 4. He requested a late-August meeting between the city, H3O and Aktion Parks, a Florida-based cable park operation company. According to its website, Aktion operates cable parks in Orlando and Miami, and is in the process of building a third in Auburndale.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, Brazel requested clarification of H3O's intent. The city did not construe Dick's email as a formal extension request per the current contract, he wrote.
Brazel referred to section 2.07 of the second addendum to the contract, which states "No later than August 17, 2016, concessionaire shall provide written notice to the city confirming concessionaire's intent for the rent commencement date to occur no later than September 4, 2016, or requesting an extension of said deadline.GÇ¥
H3O managing partner Chris Hogan responded at 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, reiterating that the park will not be open by Sept. 4. He then indicated that H3O, with the support of Aktion Parks, would like to request an extension pursuant to contract guidelines.
He requested a meeting between the three parties in late August to discuss feasibility.
