A potentially intoxicated woman struck by a car while trying to cross five lanes of traffic on State Route 2 in Monroe on Wednesday night is in critical condition at Providence Medical Center, according to Monroe Police.
Police report the incident occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, just east of Kelsey Street.
Miah Hansen, 24, of Index had been attempting to cross the highway, first falling into the lane of travel of a semi-truck, according to police, which required the driver to slam on his brakes. Hansen then got up and continued into the right lane, where she was struck by a 2001 Kia Spectra driven by a 53-year-old Monroe woman. The driver sustained minor injuries, while her passenger was not harmed.
According to a Monroe Police news release, Hansen remains in critical condition in Providence's intensive care unit, and she had a strong odor of intoxicants at the time of the collision.Photo courtesy of Monroe Police
