Jo was born in 1932 in Childress, Texas to John and Phebie Black. She was the second of four girls. The family moved from Texas when the girls were little and settled in California.
Jo graduated from Chaffey Union High School in Ontario California in 1950. She began work at Vortex, where she met Vern Friesen. They married in 1953 and began a journey together that would last over 59 years.
Jo loved her family and dedicated herself to the upbringing of her two boys, working and volunteering-áin everything they were interested in, from cub scouts to 4-H.
Jo is survived by her sons, Mark (Karen) Friesen, and Dale (Cheryl) Friesen; her grandchildren, Brandon Friesen, Sean (Aubree) Friesen, Kelly Friesen and Steven Friesen and her two great grandchildren, Jeremy and Giana Friesen.
A memorial in her honor will be held at Fort Casey State Park in September.
The family would like to thank Regency Care Center in Monroe for their care.
