Landslides still threaten Index community

The Mount Index Riversites area, located roughly one mile southeast of the town of Index near Sunset Falls, is still troubled with frequent landslides.
The hillside next to the falls, which has been shifting since December, continues to show extreme instability and attempts to rebuild the roadway have been unsuccessful. Kelly Clifton of Sky Valley Community Outreach has been delivering food and other supplies to residents who are unable to obtain necessities due to the blocked roadway.
"We are going as far up to the slide as possible each Wednesday and delivering food; canned goods, fresh produce and bread, personal supplies, pet food and water," said Clifton.
Clifton says that, if residents aren't able to come down through the slide area, she'll hike the supplies up to them. She is working in conjunction with Crosswater Community Church in Sultan.
The church is accepting food donations as well as other supply-type donations for Index residents trapped by the landslide. Contact the church for further information at-á(360) 799-1030. Crosswater Community Church's office is located at 307 Main St. in Sultan.
