LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Gold Bar wildfire a strong reminder

The recent wildland fire east of Gold Bar served as a reminder to residents in our area that wildfire danger is not isolated to Eastern Washington. Residents who live in an urban wildland area are also at risk and should create a defensible space around your home. Please visit www.firewise.org to learn more.

Snohomish County and the State of Washington are fortunate to have an integrated and cooperative response system. This system allows multiple agencies to share resources during these large scale incidents. It is only because fire agencies are willing to share resources that we are better prepared to prevent loss of homes and structures.

I want to thank Snohomish County Fire District #3, Fire District #5, Fire District #7, Fire District #22, Fire District #28, King County Fire District #45, Woodinville Fire & Life Safety, and the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office who came to the aid of our community. This incident, like many others, shows organized cooperation and great skill that benefits the people we serve.

Eric Andrews,

Fire Chief, Snohomish County Fire District 26
