On Feb. 24, Snohomish County police officers arrested two Monroe residents for heroin possession, according to the Snohomish County Police reports. Dino Urness, 26, is a known dealer, who would allegedly transport and sell heroin via his landlord's car. Police confirmed that information via a cell phone search warrant. Urness usually had approximately 1 to 2 ounces of heroin in his possession when he sold.
That Tuesday, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police officers observed a listed vehicle pull up to the gas pumps at Twin Rivers Chevron (17025 W. Main St.). Officers, who watched Urness get out of the vehicle and go to the trunk, knew who he was and knew he had an active felony warrant for possession of controlled substance. The woman with him, Trista Plaggmier, 24, had two active theft warrants.
Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, but Urness was not inside. An officer entered the gas station and spotted Urness by the bathrooms. Urness ran into the women's restroom and locked the door. The officer told Urness he was under arrest; he didn't open the door, and the officer heard the toilet flush.
The officer was able to access a bathroom key and unlock the door as the toilet flushed again. When he opened the door, the officer detained Urness, and detected a strong odor, which he identified as heroin. There was heroin on the toilet, as well as small chunks scattered throughout the bathroom. There was also a brown liquid, which the officer identified as water and heroin mixed. The officer identified a dark brown substance in the toilet, which he believed to be heroin that Urness was attempting to flush.
He was able to remove chunks of the suspected heroin from the toilet. After an assisting officer read Urness his Miranda Rights, he told police that he had "5 or 6 gramsGÇ¥ of heroin in his possession. Officers found additional heroin on Urness as they searched his person.
Plaggmier was contacted outside the business. She was also read her Miranda Rights and requested a cigarette from Urness' pack. Inside the pack of cigarettes, officers found a brown chunk, which Plaggmier identified as heroin. Officers also found a digital scale, which had brown residue consistent with heroin residue.
Plaggmier and Urness were booked into Snohomish County Jail. The vehicle was impounded. Officers weighed the recovered heroin from the toilet, estimating it to be about 27 grams of wet weight. The heroin from Urness' pocket weighed approximately 12.1 grams and the heroin from his cigarette package weighed 6.9 grams. In total, he was in possession of approximately 46 grams of heroin. Officers tested the substance with a Nik Test Kit, which showed an immediate positive reaction for the presence of heroin.
