A man was fatally wounded during an officer-involved shooting that took place just outside of Monroe.
According to a press release from the Everett Police Department, the altercation occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, as a Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a suspicious incident at the 17500 block of Tester Road. Once on the scene, the deputy located a male in the area and moments later reported shots fired.
The 31-year-old deputy, who has been with the sheriff's office since 2007, was placed on administrative leave. The deputy did not sustain injury during the incident.
The incident occurred approximately a half mile south of Monroe High School. Detectives investigating the scene described the deceased individual as a white man in his 60s. A handgun was recovered at the scene. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
The incident is being investigated by the Snohomish County Multi Agency Response Team (SMART), which is a group of detectives designated to investigate all major incidents involving Snohomish County law enforcement personnel. Officer-involved shootings, fatality incidents and all serious injury events involving a law enforcement officer are investigated by SMART.
