The WSU-Snohomish County Extension Master Gardener program has extended the deadline for accepting applications for the 2013 training class to Thursday, Nov. 15.
This comprehensive training program runs during the daytime on Thursdays for 13 weeks beginning in January, and covers a wide range of horticultural topics which train Master Gardener volunteers to become community educators and mentors in home gardening and sound environmental stewardship techniques.
"What we do with our yards and gardens affects everything from ground water quality, to the health of our rivers, streams and lakes, and on into Puget Sound,GÇ¥ said Howard Voland, Master Gardener Coordinator. "And that affects our quality of life and, most importantly, that of our children. You can help by volunteering to become a Master Gardener.GÇ¥
Training includes 80 hours of classroom and workshop instruction, as well as online instruction using your home computer. Classes are held at the Extension Office at 600 - 128th St. at McCollum Park in South Everett from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
Tuition for this extensive training program is $245 to cover the direct costs plus a volunteer commitment of 50 hours each year for two years working with over 300 other Master Gardeners on a variety of community educational projects. Without the volunteer commitment, tuition is $745.
